The President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held a number of bilateral meetings as part of a high-level event dedicated to the launch of the International Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences (2025–2034), which took place on June 8–9 in Nice, France, on the sidelines of the UN Ocean Conference. This was reported by the press service of the President of Tajikistan.
During the high-level summit, Emomali Rahmon held talks with a number of state leaders, heads of international organizations and specialized UN agencies.
In particular, meetings were held with the President of the Dominican Republic Luis Abinader Corona, the President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan, the President of Costa Rica Rodrigo Chavez, the Director-General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay, the Deputy Secretary-General of the UN, Rector of the United Nations University in Tokyo Tshilidze Marvala, the Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization Celeste Saulo, the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Qu Dongyu and the Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund Mafalda Duarte.
During the conversations, issues of climate change, water resources, sustainable development, as well as the coordination of international efforts within the framework of the implementation of sustainable development goals were discussed.
The interlocutors highly appreciated Emomali Rahmon's contribution to advancing the global climate agenda and emphasized the importance of Tajikistan's initiatives to preserve glaciers and ensure sustainable water use. In particular, the role of Dushanbe as a venue for holding the first International High-Level Conference on Glacier Conservation was noted.
The participants of the meetings expressed gratitude for Tajikistan’s leadership in matters of cryosphere protection and expressed their readiness for further cooperation.
