During his visit to Berlin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz the possibility of supplying German TAURUS cruise missiles to Ukraine. He said this in an interview with RTL.
"We discussed this issue with the Chancellor in two conversations. We are working in this direction. But I cannot disclose the details – we agreed not to speak publicly about certain topics," Zelensky said.
He noted that “mutual understanding and a certain chemistry” had been established between him and the head of the German government.
Speaking about the possible transfer of missiles, Zelensky emphasized that TAURUS is only one of the tools Ukraine needs: "They will not protect any country on their own. We need TAURUS, Patriot, political pressure, sanctions, the unity of Europe and America. Without this, Russia can attack anyone."
For his part, Merz, on air on the ZDF television channel, did not rule out the possibility of transferring TAURUS long-range missiles to Ukraine, noting that "this is within the realm of possibility." However, he specified that training Ukrainian military personnel could take several months.
