The northern building of the Shenzhen Library (Guangdong Province, South China) hides a real technological marvel – the largest underground automated book depository in the country, writes the website Huanqiuwan.
The warehouse, which spans from the first floor above ground to the third floor underground and extends to a depth of 18 meters, is China's first ultra-deep multi-level book warehouse.
This unique book depository occupies an area equal to seven basketball courts and holds more than 4 million books.
When a reader applies for a book, the automatic sorting and vertical delivery system locates the desired edition in minutes. The book is placed in a special cart, which is delivered to the desired floor on vertical rails. The entire delivery process takes about 10 minutes, ensuring maximum convenience for readers.
