A series of massive attacks carried out by Russian forces in the city of Kharkiv on June 7, 2025, left at least four people dead and over 60 injured to varying degrees of severity, according to Ukrainian officials, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration (OVA) Oleh Sinegubov.
Daylight attack: aerial bombing of civilian targets
According to Sinegubov, on June 7, during the daytime, the Russian army struck the central districts of Kharkov – Shevchenkivskyi and Kievskyi – using guided aerial bombs. One of the epicenters of the attack was the territory of the children's railway – a place popular among families with children.
A 30-year-old woman was killed in a direct hit. Another of the seriously wounded was later confirmed to have died in hospital, bringing the death toll in the daytime attack to two. More than 40 others were injured, including two in critical condition who are in intensive care.
The Ukrainian publication Ukrainska Pravda clarified that the deceased and at least four injured were employees of the state railway company Ukrzaliznytsia.
As a result of the shelling, two buildings on the territory of the children's railway, four carriages, private residential buildings and outbuildings were damaged.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the strike an “act of terrorism” in a statement on Telegram, noting that the attack had no military purpose and was directed against civilians:
"Air bombs on civilians in the city – there is even a children's railway nearby. This has no military sense. Pure terrorism. And this has been going on for more than three years of a full-scale war. This cannot be ignored," he stressed.
Night attack: Biggest drone strike since war began
On the morning of June 7, news also emerged of a nighttime attack that had taken place several hours earlier. According to Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov, it was the largest air attack on the city since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022.
According to him, on the night of June 7, Russian forces launched 48 Shahed attack drones, two missiles and four guided aerial bombs at Kharkov. According to preliminary data, at least three people were killed as a result of the night attack, and another 21 people were injured, including two children – a one-and-a-half-month-old baby and a 14-year-old girl.
The scale of destruction caused by the attacks is estimated to be significant. Dozens of buildings, including residential buildings and infrastructure facilities, were damaged.
International reaction
The Ukrainian authorities have once again called on the international community to increase pressure on Russia, including by providing additional air defense. President Zelensky stressed that such attacks on civilian infrastructure require a decisive response from the international community.
