The Council of Ulema of the Islamic Center of the Republic of Tajikistan at its meeting on May 29 of this year approved the date of one of the main religious holidays of Muslims – Idi Qurbon (Feast of Sacrifice). According to scientific calculations based on observation of the lunar calendar, the holiday will be celebrated on Friday, June 6, 2025. This is reported in the official decision of the Council.
As specified, the festive prayer (idi namoz) will begin at 5:45 a.m. local time. The corresponding time was approved taking into account traditions and astronomical observations.
The Council of Ulema also instructed imams-khatibs throughout the republic to pay special attention to issues of social support in their holiday sermons. In particular, this concerns the need to provide financial assistance to orphans, low-income and disadvantaged families, as well as to monitor the behavior of children during traditional holiday rounds (idgardak). The importance of moderation and avoiding excesses on holidays is emphasized.
In addition, in order to ensure public safety, imam-khatibs, together with the ethics commissions at mosques, have been instructed to organize round-the-clock duty in mosques on holidays.
The resolution also established that the cathedral mosques of the republic are required to transfer a membership fee of 1,000 somoni from the funds collected during the holiday to the Islamic Center fund. Control over the implementation of this provision is assigned to the responsible secretary of the Islamic Center, Nematullo Olimov.
Eid al-Qurbon is one of the major Islamic holidays symbolizing sacrifice, virtue and mercy. On this day, Muslims make sacrifices, visit mosques, visit relatives, help those in need and conduct charity events.
