As part of the 13th international meeting of high-ranking representatives responsible for security issues, held in Moscow, a meeting was held between the Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Tajikistan Yusuf Rahmon and the National Security Advisor of the Republic of Iraq Qasim al-Araji.
As reported by the press service of the Security Council of Tajikistan, during the conversation the parties confirmed the unity and firmness of their positions on issues of ensuring global and regional security, emphasizing the importance of jointly combating modern challenges and threats. First of all, they discussed countering international terrorism, transnational organized crime, and illegal drug and arms trafficking.
Yusuf Rahmon noted that Tajikistan consistently supports international and regional initiatives in the fight against terrorism and extremism. He emphasized that the republic attaches paramount importance to interaction with relevant UN structures, Central Asian countries and other states in ensuring sustainable security.
The parties also discussed practical issues of bilateral cooperation, including in the context of countering the ideology of violence, suppressing channels for financing terrorism, as well as cooperation in the detention and extradition of members of terrorist and extremist organizations wanted internationally.
Particular attention was paid to strengthening the exchange of information and coordination of law enforcement agencies of the two countries in order to increase the effectiveness of joint measures to ensure security in the region.
