On May 26, 2025, at 09:30 in the morning, on the 66th kilometer of the Dushanbe-Khujand-Chanak highway, in the Varzob district, a serious traffic accident occurred, the Emergency Situations Committee of the Republic of Tajikistan reports.
A Mercedes-Benz passenger car with transit numbers 01TJ K5436Y, traveling from the Aini district in the direction of Dushanbe, fell into a cliff about 400-500 meters deep. At the wheel was a resident of the village of Rohuti, rural jamoat Rarz, Aini district. There were four passengers in the car.
As a result of the accident, two passengers died on the spot, and the driver and two other passengers received serious injuries.
Rescuers from the Specialized Search and Rescue Service of the Emergency Situations Committee were quickly dispatched to the scene of the incident, and using hydraulic tools they extracted three injured and two dead people from the car.
One of the deceased was a 61-year-old resident of the village of Sangiston in the Aininsky district, the other was a 29-year-old resident of the Gorno-Mastchinsky district.
According to the preliminary version of law enforcement agencies, the cause of the tragedy was that the driver lost control, as a result of which the car fell off the cliff.
