Farmers in Kyzylorda and Karaganda regions have complained about a locust invasion that threatens to leave them without a harvest. People are demanding that pest control be started as soon as possible and note that equipment has arrived in the fields, but without chemicals to destroy the locusts, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing the KTK TV channel.
According to farmer Sagat Kuzemkhanov, the equipment has been standing in the pasture for four days, but nothing is being done.
"They say that the contractor hasn't brought the chemicals yet. Why did they come here then? By the time they start poisoning her, she will have destroyed everything. They knew there would be an invasion. They came like soldiers to war without bullets," the man is indignant.
In the south of the country, residents of the village of Karakum are in panic. There, a huge number of locusts are filling the fields, leaving nothing behind. A similar situation is in the center of Kazakhstan. Italian locusts are operating in the Aktogay region. This is the species that is typical for the climate of the central part of the country. They are voracious and eat almost any plant.
The residents themselves complain that they do not have time to monitor the movement and reproduction of pests. People are afraid that they will be left without pastures and harvest. The invasion was also recorded in the Shetsky and Karkaralinsky districts.
Officials say they were prepared. Almost 200 million tenge, 9 units of equipment, 2 light aircraft and 4 agrodrones were allocated for the fight. Now specialists are busy determining the territory of the locust distribution.
"We knew that there would be such locusts this year. 59 thousand hectares are planned for this year in the region. Italian locust. We are now determining what age they are, what is the area of distribution. The equipment is currently available in the region," said Zhasulan Yeshmukhanov, head of the Karaganda regional territorial inspection in the agro-industrial complex of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Let us recall that earlier a video was distributed on social networks showing an invasion of locust hordes, according to the authors of the video, in the Kyzylorda region. However, the regional agricultural department stated that the footage was not filmed by them. The department also reported on the work carried out to exterminate the locusts.
