The sale of the Kymenegorod fortress, a monument of Russian architecture from the late 18th century located in the city of Kotka, has been completed in Finland. The property has become the property of the municipality for a symbolic sum of one euro. This was reported on May 27 by the Finnish broadcaster Yle.
According to the information, the fortress was owned by the state company Senate Properties, which incurred significant expenses for its maintenance – about 200 thousand euros annually. The decision to sell was made in order to transfer the property under the management of local authorities, who plan to restore and use the territory of the fortress for cultural and leisure purposes.
The reconstruction and improvement of the fortress will require significant investment – about 18 million euros, according to a preliminary estimate by the Finnish Ministry of Finance. After the renovation, the fortress will become a new cultural center open to visitors and residents of the region.
The Kyumenegorod fortress, built during the Russian Empire, is an important historical monument that preserves the memory of the region's centuries-old past. The transfer of the facility to municipal management allows us to count on the active involvement of the local community in its preservation and development.
