This week, Dushanbe will become a key platform for discussing the fate of glaciers and climate challenges. From May 29 to 31, the capital of Tajikistan will host the International High-Level Conference on Glacier Conservation, in which more than 2,200 people have confirmed their participation, NIAT Khovar reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan.
The event will be attended by representatives of 65 UN Member States and 70 international organizations, including one Prime Minister, five Vice Presidents, five UN Under-Secretaries-General, eleven ministers and other high-ranking officials.
The conference is expected to become an important milestone in the development of international solutions to preserve glaciers and combat climate change, the relevance of which is becoming increasingly acute every year.
Let us recall that the conference is being organized within the framework of the International Year of Glacier Conservation, proclaimed on the initiative of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, supported by more than 150 UN member states at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly on December 14, 2022.
