The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan has organized a Working Group to promote the export of early onions to foreign countries. This was reported by the department.
On May 14, members of the group headed by Deputy Minister Shoista Saidmurodzoda visited Khatlon region, one of the key regions for growing early vegetables and fruits. The region is actively continuing to harvest apples, apricots, cherries, watermelons, melons and onions, including the domestic variety "Jaykhun". In the Panj district, 370 hectares have been allocated for growing onions, where farmers plan to harvest at least 10 thousand tons of products for the domestic market and export to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
In total, 14,054 hectares of early onions have been sown in Khatlon region with a projected yield of 473,131 tons.
The State Unitary Enterprise "Tajik Railway" has prepared 20 empty wagons at the stations "J. Balkhi", "Khatlon" and "Shakhritus" for the transportation of onions, all the necessary conditions for packaging and transportation have been created. In the transport and warehouse complex of Levakant, premises for packaging have been allocated, which allows using the direct transshipment scheme "car – wagon". More than 60 employees of the enterprise and local residents are involved in loading and unloading operations.
In order to support exports, railway workers provide discounts of up to 80% on the transportation of agricultural products to the Keles station in Uzbekistan, and Uzbek Railways offers discounts of up to 60%.
As of May 21, 2025, 4 wagons with early onions (240 tons) were exported from Khatlon region.
At the Republican Seminar-Conference on May 17 in Dangara District, the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon emphasized the export potential of Khatlon Region and the need to fully utilize it. In this regard, he instructed to strengthen the construction of agrological centers in Dangara and Jaloliddini Balkhi districts.
In addition, the Head of State instructed the Export Agency, the Customs Service, the State Unitary Enterprise “Tajik Railways” and regional leaders to organize the export of early fruits and vegetables through the creation of working headquarters.
