Customs authorities of Tajikistan and China have agreed to create a joint mechanism to eliminate discrepancies in customs statistics. This was reported on Wednesday by the press service of the Customs Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan following bilateral talks held on May 21 in Almaty as part of the second meeting of the heads of customs services of Central Asian countries and the People's Republic of China.
The Tajik delegation at the talks was headed by the Chairman of the Customs Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Khurshed Abdurahmon Karimzoda. The Chinese side was represented by the Minister and Secretary of the Party Committee of the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China Sun Meijun.
“The parties discussed a wide range of issues related to increasing the efficiency of customs interaction, including improving digital information exchange, introducing a risk assessment system for cross-border trade, as well as the need to eliminate discrepancies in statistical data,” the Tajik agency said in a statement.
The meeting paid special attention to problems related to insufficient documentation in international cargo transportation. Issues of increasing transparency, introducing a system for exchanging preliminary information on goods and optimizing customs procedures were discussed.
Following the negotiations, an agreement was reached to establish a special bilateral working group on the harmonization of statistical data. In addition, the parties will appoint official contact persons responsible for ongoing interaction and prompt resolution of emerging issues.
The negotiations took place in a constructive and businesslike atmosphere, confirming the desire of both parties to further strengthen cooperation in the customs sphere.
