Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Bakhodur Sheralizoda has been elected as the new head of the Fencing Federation of Tajikistan. This was reported on Wednesday by the press service of the Committee.
The decision was made at an extraordinary general meeting of the public organization "Fencing Federation of Tajikistan", held in Dushanbe. According to information from the National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan, Sheralizoda's candidacy was unanimously supported by all members of the federation.
Fencing is one of the oldest sports represented on the Olympic programme, with the first modern Games held in Athens in 1896. The International Fencing Federation (FIE), founded in 1913 and based in Lausanne, Switzerland, brings together more than 150 national federations and oversees major international tournaments such as the World Championships, World Cups and the Olympic Games.
In Tajikistan, fencing has been actively developing in recent years with the support of the National Olympic Committee. The Federation pays special attention to attracting young people to this sport and preparing athletes to participate in international competitions.
Today, Tajik fencers take part in a number of international tournaments, including the Asian Games and youth world championships, where they successfully represent the country and help strengthen its sporting image in the international arena.
