In the city of Penjikent in the Sughd region of Tajikistan, after a ten-year break, the activities of an enterprise for the extraction and processing of antimony and copper will be resumed. According to the press service of the executive body of state power of the city, the corresponding agreement was reached at a meeting of the city chairman Abdukholik Kholikzoda with the management of the joint Tajik-Chinese enterprise Broadtek-Tajikistan Mining Investment Limited.
According to the city administration, the enterprise was established in 2015 with the participation of Chinese investors and began its activities in the extraction and processing of antimony and copper ores at the Mushiston deposit, located near the village of Ruknobod, Voru village jamoat. However, after a short time, due to a number of economic and technical problems, production was suspended.
“Currently, Chinese investors, in close cooperation with the relevant structures of the republic and local authorities, are taking measures to restore the enterprise’s operations,” the Penjikent administration noted.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of issues related to the resumption of production, including the preparation of production facilities, major repairs and reconstruction of access roads, providing the facility with electricity and water, as well as the selection and training of personnel. The city leadership assured the partners of its readiness to provide comprehensive assistance and support at all stages of preparation for the launch of the enterprise.
According to Kholikzoda, the resumption of the enterprise’s activities will make a significant contribution to the development of the region’s economy, create new jobs and provide revenue to the local budget.
In turn, the director of the enterprise, Guo Chin Chin, expressed gratitude to the city and republican authorities for supporting the project and assured that all necessary technical and organizational measures will be completed in the shortest possible time.
