The Committee of Permanent Representatives of the EU Member States (Coreper) has agreed to introduce the 17th package of sanctions against Russia. This was reported by journalist Rikard Jozwiak via the X network.
"EU ambassadors have just given the green light to the 17th package of sanctions against Russia. In parallel, additional measures related to human rights violations, hybrid interventions around the world and the proliferation of chemical weapons were approved," Jozwiak wrote.
In addition, the sanctions are expected to include restrictions on Russia's shadow fleet, EU High Representative Kaja Kallas said on April 14. She stressed that the new sanctions package should be more tangible for Russia.
According to Bloomberg, the new sanctions list could include 60 individuals and entities, as well as 150 ships. The final approval of the sanctions is expected to take place at a meeting of the EU Council on May 20.
However, the EU is struggling to reach unanimity among its 27 member states to take tough new measures against Russia, Reuters reports.
