The Seventh Central Asian Conference on Climate Change (CACCC-2025) will be held in Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) from May 13 to 15, Fergana.ru reports.
The event was organized by the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) jointly with the Government of Turkmenistan with the support of the World Bank, the Central Asia Water and Energy Program (CAWEP), the Resilient Landscape Restoration Project (RESILAND Tajikistan) and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).
The theme of the conference is “Achieving the Global Climate Finance Goal through Regional and National Actions in Central Asia.” The focus will be on translating climate ambitions into concrete actions, mobilizing financial resources for climate change adaptation and mitigation, and strengthening regional cooperation.
The CACCC-2025 program includes plenary sessions, panel discussions, specialized sessions on climate initiatives and financial instruments, as well as visits to sites demonstrating successful examples of adaptation to climate change. The conference will be held in a hybrid format with the possibility of in-person and online participation.
Key topics of the event:
- climate finance mechanisms and investments in sustainable development;
- innovative solutions in climate policy, water resources management and energy;
- regional cooperation on adaptation to climate change;
- aligning national climate strategies with the global climate agenda.
Expected outcomes of the conference include the development of a strategy to increase climate finance in the region by 25% within five years, the preparation of updated nationally recognized contributions (NDC 3.0) under the Paris Agreement, strengthening cross-border cooperation and presenting innovative practices for sustainable development.
CACCC 2025 is expected to be an important platform for discussing climate change challenges in Central Asia, where accelerated temperature increases, desertification and glacier melting are threatening the region’s water resources, agriculture and energy.
