An international Greco-Roman wrestling tournament for the City Chairman's Cup, timed to coincide with the celebration of Tajikistan Youth Day, was held in the city of Istaravshan in the Sughd region from May 9 to 11. This was reported by the press service of the city mayor's office.
The competition was held on the territory of the state institution "Complex of Historical Monuments "Mug Fortress". More than 150 athletes from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan took part in the tournament, competing for prizes in 12 weight categories.






The opening ceremony of the tournament was attended by the Chairman of the city of Istaravshan Adham Mamurzoda, the Deputy Chairman of the Yangiabad district of Uzbekistan Zafarbek Kullashev, heads of the city's security agencies, as well as coaches and athletes.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Adham Mamurzoda noted that sport remains the most important factor in the development of society and the strengthening of interstate and national ties. "In the context of a difficult global situation, sport is a messenger of peace, a means of strengthening friendship between peoples and promoting a healthy lifestyle," he emphasized.
According to him, thanks to the support of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, the country pays special attention to the development of sports, involving young people in sports and creating conditions for their self-realization.








Mamurzoda added that this is already the second international tournament in Istaravshan this year. In March, the first international tournament in national wrestling "Gushtini Milli" in the city's history was held here.
During the three days of competition, the wrestlers demonstrated a high level of athletic training and professionalism. At the end of the tournament, the winners and prize winners were awarded medals, diplomas and memorable gifts, which were presented by the head of the city, representatives of the Yangiabad district and sports organizations.
The mayor's office press service emphasized that holding such tournaments helps strengthen cooperation between the countries of the region, develop mass sports and popularize a healthy lifestyle among young people.
