The President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon delivered an address on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. In his speech, delivered on May 8, 2025 in Dushanbe, he emphasized the importance of remembering the feat of the Tajik people in the fight against fascism and the great sacrifice that the country made.
The head of state noted that World War II is the most terrible war in modern human history in terms of scale and human tragedy. More than 70 countries around the world were drawn into the maelstrom of war, which resulted in the deaths of more than 55 million people. E Tens of thousands of cities and towns were destroyed, annihilated and wiped off the face of the earth. According to experts and specialists, military expenditures and total damage from this war today amount to 4.5 trillion dollars. Current and future generations must always remember that it was friendship, brotherhood, solidarity and support of the various peoples of the former Soviet Union that became the main factors in the defeat of the occupiers and the prevention of the spread of the “fascist plague” in the 20th century. The Second World War became one of the most tragic pages in the history of mankind, in which more than 55 million people died, and tens of thousands of cities were destroyed. According to the president, the Tajik people played a significant role in the victory over fascism. Although the field of bloody battles was thousands of kilometers away from Tajikistan, its echoes were heard throughout the country, every Tajik family suffered from its tragedies. Not only in the cities, but also in the most remote villages of Tajikistan, there was not a family that did not send a father, brother, son or relative to the battlefield to fight the fascist occupiers.
"Today we proudly celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Victory, honoring the memory of the heroes of Tajikistan, who made their worthy contribution to the fight against Hitler's fascism," the President said in his address. He recalled that during the Second World War, Tajikistan, despite its remote location, lost more than 100 thousand of its sons who died in battle, and more than 60 thousand returned with disabilities. He also emphasized the importance of solidarity among the peoples of the former Soviet Union, which became the basis for the victory over fascism.
Emomali Rahmon especially noted the contribution of veterans of labor, women and children who worked tirelessly in the rear, providing the front with everything necessary, despite their own suffering. During the war, Tajikistan became a shelter for more than 100 thousand evacuees, and the people of the republic provided them with fraternal assistance.
"Tajikistan, despite the difficult conditions of war, not only lost its heroes, but also became a symbol of fortitude, courage and willingness to help," the head of state noted.
In addition, Rahmon recalled the tragedy that befell the country in the early 90s, when Tajikistan was drawn into a civil war that claimed more than 150,000 lives and became a difficult test for the people. However, according to the president, thanks to the unity of the people and the intervention of the military and law enforcement, peace and stability in the republic were restored.
The head of state stressed the importance of maintaining peace and political stability, recalling that Tajikistan is responsible for maintaining these values not only within the country, but also in the international arena.
In conclusion of his speech, the President congratulated the veterans of World War II and expressed hope for the preservation and strengthening of peace and stability in Tajikistan.
