Belarus and the Belarusian land suffered the most terrible blows from the fascist scum during the Great Patriotic War. This was noted to a BELTA correspondent by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Republic of Belarus, Permanent Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the statutory and other bodies of the Commonwealth of Independent States Bakhtovar Safarzoda, who was invited the day before as a guest to a ceremonial meeting and concert of artists dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War.
He emphasized: "This was a common Victory of the Soviet people, including the Belarusian and Tajik peoples. Then, from our one and a half million republic, more than 335 thousand Tajiks participated in the struggle for independence, of which over 100 thousand did not return home. More than 10 thousand fought in the battles for the liberation of Belarus, freeing it from the brown plague of the 20th century. 54 people from Tajikistan were awarded the highest title of Hero of the Soviet Union."
The diplomat paid special attention to the fact that the peoples of Belarus and Tajikistan fought side by side at that time. "There was one homeland," he noted.
According to the ambassador, the celebration of the common Victory in Belarus symbolizes this friendship. "It is important for us to remember and pass on to future generations the truth about those events. We are the descendants of the great victors," said Bakhtovar Safarzoda.
