Tajikistan has taken a leading position in Central Asia in terms of the volume and potential of renewable energy sources. According to the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan, over the past ten years, the installed capacity of renewable energy sources in the country has increased by 15.8%, reaching 5,738 megawatts.

As noted in the annual report of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the increase is mainly due to the modernization and construction of hydroelectric power plants. As a result, Tajikistan produces 98% of electricity from hydro resources and ranks sixth in the world in terms of the share of "green" energy in the overall energy balance.
Thus, the republic maintains its status as a leader in terms of renewable energy production in the region.
