The Bureau of National Statistics has published data on the population of Kazakhstan as of April 1, 2025, Tengrinews.kz reports with reference to the official website of the bureau.
According to statistics, as of April 1, the country's population was 20,333,530 people.
Almost 4.5 million Kazakhstanis live in Almaty (2,305,765 people) and Turkestan region (2,154,308 people).
Almaty Region (1,568,757) and Astana (1,551,213) each have 1.5 million people. At the same time, the capital has the highest population growth rate in the country – 1.47 percent.
More than a million Kazakhstanis live in Shymkent (1,264,492 people), Zhambyl (1,221,100 people) and Karaganda (1,133,436 people) regions.
12,833,140 residents of Kazakhstan live in cities, 7,500,390 people live in villages.
Experts from the forecasting and research department of JSC "Center for the Development of Labor Resources" predicted that by 2050 every second city dweller will live in Astana, Almaty or Shymkent.
