The Chairman of the Sughd Region, Rajabboy Akhmadzoda, held a meeting with the delegation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), headed by the head of the agency's expert group, Sandra Marie Stejskal. According to the press service of the regional administration, the visit of the IAEA representatives is being carried out as part of monitoring the operation of radiation therapy equipment at the Oncology Center of the Sughd Region.
The parties discussed the current state of cooperation and noted the positive dynamics of interaction between the IAEA and medical institutions in the region. In particular, in 2025, as part of a joint project, the Oncology Center of the region was equipped with a modern digital X-ray machine of the Evolution brand, the cost of which is 203,132 euros. The equipment was successfully put into operation and is used in medical practice.

In addition, during the meeting it was noted that in the near future the Center will be additionally equipped with high-tech equipment for brachytherapy – one of the methods of internal irradiation in the treatment of oncological diseases. It is expected that this installation, worth 324,055 euros, will be delivered as part of the IAEA technical assistance.
With the assistance of the agency, advanced training for three doctors of the Oncology Center was also organized. Medical specialists were trained at the Scientific Research Oncology Center in Moscow, which, according to representatives of the regional administration, was an important step in developing the professional competencies of local personnel.
Rajabboy Akhmadzoda expressed gratitude to the agency for its comprehensive support in modernizing the region’s healthcare system and confirmed the interest of the Sughd region in further strengthening its partnership with the IAEA.
